Slime Care

Here are some tips for caring for your slime :)

Before opening your slime, poke it with a finger to make sure it is not too sticky for your liking. The stickiness of your slime can change depending on your climate, whether the slime had just been shipped in the heat or cold, and the moisture and oil content of your skin.

Making Slime Activator
As described on your care card, you were provided with 1/2 teaspoon of borax. To make activator, mix this 1/2 teaspoon with 1/2 cup of warm or hot water until all the crystals have fully dissolved. You can keep your borax mixture in a container for future use. Be sure to label the container as not being safe drinking water.

Slime Troubleshooting
Some of these questions are answered on our FAQ page. But here is a quick cheat sheet:

How do I fix slime that got hard?
Luckily there are a few remedies that can help you if this has happened. Adding lotion to butter and clay slimes will help soften them up. I recommend Lubriderm fragrance free lotion, as it will not interact with any scents added to your slime and is gentle on all skin types. Also soaking slime in a few teaspoons of water and massing it in will loosen up the over-bonded polymers and make it stretchier.
How do I fix slime that is too sticky?
As described in the directions above, make activator and add just a few drops at a time. Adding too much activator will make your slime hard. Remember, you can always add a little more, but you can't take it away once you put it in! That being said, slime is made from glue. There are many other factors to consider when playing with slime. You may be holding the slime for too long in your hand. The heat from your hands will make the slime stickier. It is best to move quickly or play with slime on a table. Try using your fingertips more, and your palms less.
Why is the slime is sticking to the inside of the container?
Sometimes for certain slime, and small containers as well, the texture of the slime has a consistently where it may want to stick to the bottom of the container, because the bond to the plastic is stronger than the bond of the polymers in the glue (this is often the case with some glossier or thinner slimes). This is normal - not all slimes will cleanly come out of the container.
My slime doesn't stretch very good?
Different slimes have different consistencies and textures. Some slimes will tear easily if you pull them apart at a moderate speed, but can stretch several feet wide if pulled slowly. You have to experiment to see what the properties are of your individual slime. You can add lotion to your slime to increase stretchiness. I recommend Lubriderm fragrance free lotion, as it will not interact with any scents added to your slime and is gentle on all skin types.
The floam/fishbowl/slushee beads fall out when I pull the slime. What do I do?
For any foreign objects put into the slime, other than something fine like powder or glitter, there is a very normal chance that there may be some loss of beads when pulling the slime apart. This is just basic physics... the thinner you pull the slime, gravity or lack of slime may "let go" of the bead and it will fall out. My slime is formulated to reduce the frequency of this happening, and most people can squish and play with floam without a single bead falling out. Keep in mind that if you tear your slime into two pieces, floam beads at the edges of the tear will have nothing to stick to and will obviously fall out.

Most importantly - wash your hands before and after playing with slime. Dirty, sweaty, oily hands will always stick to slime a lot more. And finally, don't forget that slime is made from glue and water. The more it is played with, the more it will dry up, need care, and eventually will have to be thrown out after hours of fun are had (just like silly putty, play-doh, etc).
